Lt. Ehren Watada has refused deployment to Iraq. His right as an American or cowardice by justification?

The Lieutenant has refused to go saying it is an illegal war based on false premises. See Yahoo Kevin's hotspots "Conscientious Rejector? - Tue, Jan 2 2007". Do servicemen get to vote on these kinds of things? What do you think will happen to the Lt.? Does he deserve a medal or prison?
