I have wmm (windows movie maker) and I plug in my camera for the video why does it say no device?

Ok so I'm getting frustrated and I plug in my camera and it says no device. I thought it could take cameras. Why is it saying that? Even when i downloaded other programs it doesn't detect my camera. How is this not working?
